Welcome to a journey through the cross-cultural world of costume, textiles, and the influence of trade routes that brought not only various goods, but also ideas, cultural migrations, and religious life across boundaries. As I embark on my sabbatical, I invite you to join me in exploring the historical, cultural, and artistic significance of trade routes, textiles, and a specific garment called the tabard.
Throughout this year, I will conduct fieldwork in Venice, Croatia, Istanbul, Spain, and beyond. By visiting archaeological sites, museums, and artisans' ateliers, I will uncover the historical narratives embedded in these textiles. Additionally, I will create fabric collages and reconstruct historical tabards, blending traditional techniques with contemporary interpretation.
Through this blog, I will share my research findings, insights, and the intricate designs and patterns that reflect the syncretic nature of cultural exchanges. Together, we will explore how these garments reveal stories of identity, family, and fidelity across different cultures and epochs.
I invite you to join me on this journey as we unravel the stories woven into the fabric of history.
